Flipped Classroom Approach!

Hey there, everyone! How are you guys? Well, if you wonder how I've been; these couple of weeks have reaaallyy been tough to be honest. It was just submitting one assignment after another and doing one presentation after another... Sometimes I feel like school consumes all my life... But no worries, your girl handles it all, haha! 😎

Anyways, today I'll talk about flipped classrooms and our assignment about them. Let's dive in!

Well, a flipped classroom is structured around the idea that lecture or direct instruction is not the best use of class time. Instead students encounter information before class, freeing class time for activities that involve higher order thinking. I think a language classroom could benefit from a flipped classroom approach a lot actually. Language learning is mainly about exposure and practise, and a flipped classroom creates time for these in the classroom. On the other hand, preparing materials for instructions beforehand, could increase the workload of the teacher and that's a disadvantage. The topic is open to discussion but I think it's advantages are a lot more than the drawbacks.

For our flipped classroom assignment, we were supposed to create a vocabulary teaching video for our students, and a practise to make them exercise the things they learned, finally; we were supposed to fill out our ASSURE lesson plan according to our materials.

Well, the most challanging part was to record our own voices for the video I think. In fact, we were having so much fun recording, but we had so many bloopers that we had to start all over again to record multiple times, haha! And choosing the right tools to create the materials was also a part where we had some difficulties. We tried and failed to use some of the tools and needed to search for other tools that matched our needs. However, now we are happy with our final products!

For our video, we used Canva to both create and record our video. Our topic was "Daily Routines". If you would like to see the character we created to teach the related words and take a look at our video, you can visit this link:

After preparing our video, we were in search of a site that we could create multiple exercises with our target words. For that, WordWall helped a lot! You can see the exercises from this link, they are really fun, and also related to our video! :

Finally, here is our ASSURE lesson plan:

It was our second time preparing an ASSURE plan so it was a lot easier than the first time, haha. We knew what we were doing this time! 😅

Well, that was all from me today. Before saying goodbye, I want to thank my lovely group members, which also have amazing blogs that you guys can visit from the links below:

Thank you for sticking by!

Your homegirl,
Sıla 💗
