Information But Make It Fun: Infographics!

Hello there!

As you can see from the title, this post is about infographics! Well, first of all, let's have a look at what an infographic is.

According to the Oxford English Dictionary, an infographic (or information graphic) is “a visual representation of information or data”. Infographics are a coherent combination of visuals, content, data and narrative; as you can see in the image above. And for our ICT & Material Design course, we had a task that required us to create one!

Our topics were to be chosen from ethical and legal issues in technology use, and I chose cyberbullying for my infographic.

Here is the outcome:

To be honest, I am really proud of it.😏 It was my first time designing an infographic and at first I was really scared because I am not much of a tech girlie and I am generally not familiar with these kind of tools. However, once I got into it, it was really easy to figure out!

I tried to create my infographic using Piktochart but had a little bit of a hard time so I decided to use Canva since I was familiar with its interface. After that, everything turned out pretty good!

Well, this task got me thinking about my own language learning journey. That's because, not only was it my first time creating an infographic, but also it was the first time I was being introduced to it! My previous teachers never used infographics in their lessons, and I thought it would have been amazing if they did. Because while I was working on this task, I realized infographics are awesome for visual learners and they do an amazing job of providing a lot of information while preventing the audience from getting boredjust what a teacher needs in a classroom!

So, to sum up, I can say that creating my first infographic was a great experience that not only helped me learn a new skill but also made me realize how effective infographics can be in language classrooms and education in general! They’re engaging, informative, and perfect for visual learners—something I wish I had encountered more during my own language learning journey.

This was all I wanted to share for today, stay tuned for more posts!

Sıla🙌
