AI Tools in ELT: A Chat with Oscar Wilde!

Hey there, everyone!

Today, I'm going to talk about something really interesting, a hot topic in the education field as well as in many other fields: AI Tools!

As soon as it emerged, AI became an inseparable part of our lives, and we learned a lot about it. But what about AI that we can use for educational purposes? Do we know enough about them? Well, I surely didn’t know enough...

In our ICT & Material Design course, we learned about some AI tools that we can use in classrooms to enhance learning and teaching experiences, and Magic School AI was one of them. It is a really useful tool that includes a lot of AI support in just one site— including chatbots, writing feedback tools, song generators... and much more! For our task, we had to use its character chatbot and writing feedback tools.

Basically, all we needed to do was make an interview with a historical or fictional figure of our choice using the character chatbot, and write a report about our interview. It was so much fun!

I chose Oscar Wilde to interview, as he is one of my favorite writers and his book The Picture of Dorian Gray is my all-time favorite novel. I thought it would be fun to learn more about him. When I gave the instructions to the chatbot and started to interview it as Oscar Wilde, I was shocked. I was actually in shock... How can AI be this smooth?! At one point, I nearly forgot that I was chatting with AI and thought it was Oscar Wilde himself, haha! Also, I learned a lot about him as well, and it was amazing.

After the interview, I wrote a report about it and submitted it to Magic School AI’s writing feedback tool. It really helped me a lot, and I had to correct more sentences than I expected, haha! It does a great job giving feedback about all aspects of your writing. It's really helpful.

Well, with the help of this task, I had to use several types of AI, and it was actually easier than I thought. I'm actually not generally good at technological stuff, but after this experience, I gained confidence! AI is really convenient to use, and I think it can do wonders in a good teacher’s hands. In the future, I would looove to integrate AI into my classes and make use of it!

Flipped Classroom Approach!

Hey there, everyone! How are you guys? Well, if you wonder how I've been; these couple of weeks have reaaallyy been tough to be honest. Instead students encounter information before class, freeing class time for activities that involve higher order thinking. Hey there! How are you guys? Well, I am brilliant ! I think that’s mainly because our midterm week is finally over. What a week! 😷😴 Anyway , today I’m going to talk about podcasts ! In our ICT & Material Design course, we had a task where we had to create a podcast. We were given several options to choose from, and the one I picked was this: “Your task is to create a 60-second (exactly!) podcast to introduce your own inspiring idea to improve the world / to make the world a better place to live in.” My idea was a challenge called “One Good Deed A Day”,  which is also the title of my podcast.
