Thank You & Goodbye!

Hey there, my lovely audience! Today, I'm greeting you for the last time... At least for a while. As you may have noticed, we have come to the end of term, and that means our "Current Issues in Teaching" course is also coming to an end. So, in this final post, I will wrap up my thoughts and talk about my experiences on this course. In terms of strenghts, I would say the course was full of them. For instance, it made me realize that there were actually much more technological tools that can be entegrated in a language classroom than I could ever imagine! It was nice to learn and try to use them ourselves. It really opened new windows for us. On the other hand, the course was not all rainbows and butterflies. For the course, we had to accomplish certain assignments nearly every other week, and considering the reaaaally tight and busy curriculum of 3rd grade in ELT, we really had a hard time. Our workload was more than we could handle sometimes and this course didn'...

AI in ELT!

Hi guys! How is everyone doing? I hope all is well.  Today, I will talk about our "AI in ELT" assignment and how it went. For this assignment, we were basically supposed to create a teaching material that integrates AI into students' learning process. Before reflecting on our creating process, if you want to take a look at them, here's our material and lesson plan: Teaching Material ASSURE Lesson Plan Well, while working on our assignment, my peers Bernis , Azra and I had a lot of brainstorming sessions, and finally decided to integrate AI within a writing task. We ourselves were using AI mostly to get feedback on our own writings and we thought maybe this could be beneficial for high school prep students as well. The process went quite smooth actually since we did a lot of group work projects this semester, we were used to the process. One challanging part was to decide on the design and the topic of the writing task. Other than that, the process was really fun an...

AR/VR in ELT!

Resim
Hello there! How are you guys doing? Well, I'm pretty fine, if you ask me. Today, as you can guess from the title, I will talk about VR/AR integrated classrooms in ELT and our assignment about them. In our assignment, we were supposed to create a teaching material that included VR/AR tools. Our topic was “Exploring a city abroad” , and we needed to provide students with 360-degree virtual tours, videos, etc. It was an assignment with quite a lot of steps actually. I would say the most challenging part was choosing a city and researching important landmarks and museums. There were too many options, and it required a handful of research. In the end, we decided to go with Vienna, Austria , and we are really happy with our decision. We chose two landmarks and a museum and added QR codes that lead students to virtual tours and videos. We even included a 3D model of a Wiener Schnitzel in our material, haha! 🍽️ If you're curious: 🔘 VIEW OUR VR/AR VIENNA MATERIAL After design...

Flipped Classroom Approach!

Resim
Hey there, everyone! How are you guys? Well, if you wonder how I've been; these couple of weeks have reaaallyy been tough to be honest. It was just submitting one assignment after another and doing one presentation after another... Sometimes I feel like school consumes all my life... But no worries, your girl handles it all, haha! 😎 Anyways, today I'll talk about flipped classrooms and our assignment about them. Let's dive in! Well, a flipped classroom is structured around the idea that lecture or direct instruction is not the best use of class time. Instead students encounter information before class, freeing class time for activities that involve higher order thinking. I think a language classroom could benefit from a flipped classroom approach a lot actually. Language learning is mainly about exposure and practise, and a flipped classroom creates time for these in the classroom. On the other hand, preparing materials for instructions beforehand, could increase the wo...

AI-enhanced CBLP!

Hello there! What’s up everybody? I hope you guys are all doing well. Me? Well, I just finished a really tough midterm week and still surviving, so I’m not bad at all, haha! Today I will be talking about our first AI-enhanced CBLP (Corpus Based Language Pedogogy) assignment and how it went.  We were supposed to create an AI-enhanced corpus-based teaching material along with a lesson plan based on the ASSURE model for the target group of EFL learners enrolled in a high school in Turkey. At first it sounded challenging, but the process was quite fun actually.  First we needed to come up with exercises that first tested students’ background knowledge; then made them have a hands on practice with corpus and AI, and lastly, an output exercise. Here is the result:  https://www.canva.com/design/DAG481-qn-U/ziYmTuqlbUJDwVMWsEFevg/edit?utm_content=DAG481-qn-U&utm_campaign=designshare&utm_medium=link2&utm_source=sharebutton   We are really happy with our wor...

Parting Is Such Sweet Sorrow...

Hello, my lovely audience! Today, I am greeting you for the last time… at least for a while. As you may have noticed, summer is here and we have come to the end of the term. And that means our ICT & Material Design course - which I opened this blog for - is also coming to an end. In this last post, I will wrap up my thoughts and reflections, and talk about my experiences in this course. Well, I was never much of a tech girlie, to be honest. And before taking this course, I had some fears that I wasn’t going to do well. But after taking it, I realized instructional technologies are actually fun and nothing to be scared of. They’re quite easy to learn! Maybe that’s also because we had a wonderful professor, I don’t know. 😏😏 Anyways, this course really opened new perspectives for me and made me realize that if I want to use technology in my classroom one day, the knowledge I currently have is not enough, and probably never will be! There are always new things, tools, and site...
